OPTA IS A VOLUNTEER-DRIVEN, MEMBERSHIP-BASED ORGANIZATION FOCUSED ON THE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF ITS MEMBERS’ DRIVING AND SAFETY-FOCUSED SKILLS, PROFESSIONALISM, EFFICIENCY AND TEAMWORK.
The origin of OPTA is traced to a group of transportation supervisors in Clackamas County who met to form an association with essentially the same purposes and goals in 1969. OPTA was organized in 1979 as the successor organization to the Oregon Pupil Transportation Supervisors Association.
Over the years the organization grew to sponsoring workshops and training programs for school bus drivers and supervisors. In addition, the organization started the state school bus driver driving competition, commonly known as the School Bus Safety Exercise. These competitions have become an annual tradition in the state with chapter events and a state-wide competition.
Today our members hail from all corners of Oregon. We are supported by membership dues, fundraising projects and contributions and sponsorships by vendors and contractors.
