Oregon Pupil Transportation Association
OPTA IS A VOLUNTEER-DRIVEN, MEMBERSHIP-BASED ORGANIZATION FOCUSED ON THE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF ITS MEMBERS’ DRIVING AND SAFETY-FOCUSED SKILLS, PROFESSIONALISM, EFFICIENCY AND TEAMWORK.
Our roots go back to 1967, when a similar organization was formed to connect pupil transportation supervisors. In 1979 that group was renamed to allow for the inclusion of drivers and other transportation professionals.
Over the years the organization grew, sponsoring workshops and training programs for school bus drivers and supervisors. In addition, the organization started the state school bus driver driving competition, commonly known as the School Bus Safety Exercise. These competitions have become an annual tradition in the state with chapter events and state-wide competitions.
Today our members hail from all corners of Oregon. We are supported by membership dues, fundraising projects and contributions and sponsorships by partners and contractors.
Our Mission:
OPTA’s primary goal is to improve the safety of children in and around school buses. We do this by sharing experience and expertise; helping to solve common problems; assisting the Oregon Department of Education; assisting in driver training; and providing a pool of resources available to all districts and agencies throughout the state.
